The Gay Agenda vs My Idiot Parents
This story is a few years old, but I was thinking about it the other day. My parents are fundamentalist Catholics. Think Glenn Beck, with less reasoning skills. They decided to remove my little brother from the Boy Scouts because “the gays were attacking”. Now that quote came from my brother who was like 12 at the time, and I’m sure he was just parroting whatever my parents told him.
The gays are attacking. My first thought was, “what are they going to do? Throw glitter at you?” Maybe they’ll force the boys to watch musicals?
It’s all silly to me, but from my parent’s perspective, there is no difference between homosexuality and pedophilia. They can’t see a difference between two consenting adults who love each other but happen to be the same gender, and an adult having sex with a child. As far as my parents are concerned, they are both against the will of their god, and are equally immoral. That’s why people like this often lump homosexuality in with bestiality. Oddly enough, they never really mention incest. Probably because that’s acceptable in the Bible. And most of the people who spout this nonsense are inbred.
This brings me to my main point. On one hand, you have the Boy Scouts, who just wanted to be more inclusive, and accept people as they are. For that act of barbarism, my parents took my brother out of an organization that probably taught him a lot of skills. On the other hand, you have the Catholic Church who has a history of actual immoral acts, specifically, sexual attacks on children. Let alone all of the other immoral acts of the Church, like teaching people that they were worthless without god. Have my parents left the Catholic Church? Were they disgusted by these acts of indescribable immorality? Hahahahah. Nope.
Gays are going against god. Priests are men of god. So they get a literal get out of jail free card. How many times have we heard the same apologetics. “The priest is only human.” “He made a mistake.” “It’s just a few bad apples. Most priests are good.” Yet they refuse to use that same logic with gays. And there’s not even a history of gays abusing children. Catholic priests have been molesting children for decades (that we know of), and could possible have been doing it for centuries. The organization of the Church even had a practice to hide it, and cover it up. It was so common, they had a procedure. But yeah, the gays are attacking.
I love this double standard where god and anything related to god gets a free pass, but anything you think goes against your god has a one strike and your out. Like, it is estimated that between 4 and 6% of Catholic priests abuse children. That doesn’t seem like much, but there are almost half a million priests in the world. How many stories have there been of gays molesting little boys?
Here’s the problem. First, it’s not that gAys sexually abuse people, it’s that gUys do. That’s why men are more likely to rape than women. Men are sexually aggressive. Some aren’t able to control their urges. And the argument has been made that if the priests were allowed to masturbate or have sex with adults, then this problem would go away. I’m not convinced that is completely accurate.
Second, it is estimated that up to 10 percent of men in general abuse children (regardless of gender of the children). So priests would be less than the average. What is interesting is that those who abuse children are usually not gay. Usually, they have child like senses of self, and so in their mind, they’re not molesting children, they are exploring the bodies of peers.
Even as far back as 1982, we knew this.
Are homosexual adults in general sexually attracted to children and are preadolescent children at greater risk of molestation from homosexual adults than from heterosexual adults? There is no reason to believe so. The research to date all points to there being no significant relationship between a homosexual lifestyle and child molestation. There appears to be practically no reportage of sexual molestation of girls by lesbian adults, and the adult male who sexually molests young boys is not likely to be homosexual.
(Groth & Gary, 1982, p. 147).
So we have a known threat (priests) vs a hypothetical threat based on no evidence (gays), and my parents decided that the gays were going to attack. Have you ever seen a gay fight? What with their silly slapping and weak wrists. Such lunacy. My parents aren’t even a rarity. My mom’s excuse was that “everyone here (the small village in which they live) believes this”. I’m sure they do. But believing something doesn’t mean it’s true. Which is why they are religious in the first place. They would rather hold on to their own ideas than accept reality. They have been told this lie that gays are a problem, to distract them from the real problem, which is their priests.

I think I read this years ago and I read it again today. Quite succinct.
