Biography: Alexandre Dumas
In my opinion, Alexandre Dumas is one of the best authors of all time. It’s not just because he wrote my favorite story, The Count of Monte Cristo. It’s not that he looked like a morbidly obese Mark Twain. It’s not because he lived a rapper’s lifestyle. It’s because he found a way to make history interesting by making it the backdrop of his adventures. That and his style of prose.

Another Short Story About Me
Continuing my series of vulnerable autobiographies, here’s part three. (Part One) (Part Two) I have often criticized my parents for being terrible parents, and horrible human beings. Perhaps some of this is the residue of teen angst, but I think many, if not all of my complaints are valid. I’ll even be honest enough to admit that there were some good times, and good things about my parents. I’ve talked about getting my work ethic from my dad.

My Car Crash Story
Simply put, tonight is the 10 year anniversary of my car accident. I see it as one of the best things to ever happen to me. At the time, I was living in a small mountain town called Mariposa, CA. It is a famous gold rush town and the old Mariposa County took up most of California. The people who live there are hard working Republican types. God, guns, gays. I hated it. Sadly, I was stuck. I was 18, had no money, and what money I did have went to my car bills. I was working as a Front Desk Agent at a fairly large resort style hotel just…

A Shorter, Short Story About Me
I briefly mentioned it in the first part of this story. Music has always been important to me. I remember as a young child, I would listen to whatever my parents enjoyed, which was mostly country music and some 80s pop. Music has a therapeutic effect on me. I tend to listen to music that resonates with me, usually, because the subject matter matches my mood.

Elitists and Mediocrity
It amazes and saddens me that our country has such contempt for the elite. We embrace and even brag about our mediocrity and ineptitude. I remember during the most recent presidential election, Republican Candidate and Crazy Person, Rick Santorum derided President Obama for wanting everyone to go to college, calling him an “elitist”. As if that is a negative term. That’s like calling someone you don’t like a “nice person” and expecting them to get hurt.

Bullies
Lately, I’ve been getting tired of hearing myself type about religion. So I asked people for ideas for rant topics. One person mentioned bullying in school. Another mentioned Mike Jeffries, the CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch, who said he didn’t want fat people wearing his clothes. Now at first, I was going to do separate posts, but I realized that Jeffries is kind of a bully.

A Short Story About Me
A few months ago, my therapist asked when I realized I was an atheist. I didn’t have an answer. There was never a single moment where I realized I didn’t believe in god. It was more of a gradual process. Honestly, it started with laziness. Then it was anger. Finally logic.

Faith vs. Fact
I’m often amazed that “faith” is considered a valid opinion. Faith is the belief in something without any proof. Fact is a conclusion supported by proof. They are opposites. If you have faith, you ignore facts. If you have facts, you don’t need faith. Consider this: Which would be more likely to sway your opinion? If I were to say that I believe the earth goes around the sun, or if I were to say that I can prove the earth goes around the sun?

Education vs. Pregnancy
The Center for Disease Control has found that the states that are most against things like “teaching safe sex”, “why you shouldn’t put butter in everything” or “reading”, are the states with the highest rates of teen pregnancy. I know. How unbelievable? You mean to say the uneducated pop out more kids? Why would they do that? Why would stupid people pass on their stupidity?
